Are you one of those people who have trouble falling asleep every night? If yes, then you should definitely try the following 4-7-8 breathing method. Believe it or not, it will make you sleep in 60 seconds. Sounds amazing, does it not?
This breathing technique was discovered by Dr. Andrew Weill, an expert at Harvard University. The method consists of breathing at 4, 7 and 8 counts, and allows oxygen to fill the lungs to calm the brain.
Some people suffer from insomnia that occurs as a result of eating bad foods before going to sleep, or because of the stress, or even some screen you have in your own room.
So what is this 4, 7 and 8 method really?
Weill Andrew, a wellness expert who studied meditation, stress management, and breathing, discovered this method which is very simple. All you have to do is the following:
Breathe deeply through the nose for 4 seconds and hold for 7 seconds. Then exhale for 8 seconds. This technique will reduce heart rate and produce certain chemicals to calm the brain.
In case you are a little skeptical, give it a try. It is more than a workout to sleep. When you can not sleep, your heart rate is faster because of the adrenalin production of the endocrine system outside the adrenal glands. In this case, breathing is shallow and quick. But, with this breathing exercise, it improves your mood and decreases your heart rate
This breathing method, called the ‘natural relaxer of the nervous system’, has been used for years and is based on ancestral methods used in India, but Weil has given it a new impulse with the numerical formula. Weil, who on his YouTube channel explains it, enjoys a great reputation in the United States. In fact, it has been on the cover page of the prestigious magazine Time twice and has appeared in several television programs.
