Tanis Jex-Blake, from Alberta went to the beach, to enjoy her day and the lovely weather. Tanis, mother of 5 beautiful children, said was her first attempt in 13 years to sunbathe while wearing a bikini. Already feeling nervous, she had no idea that her trip would end in tears. She said that a group of people laughed at her and pointed their fingers. But, she said that she didn’t respond or break down while at the beach, but wrote that she cried on the car ride home.
This is why she wrote this open letter for everyone, to tell them what she really felt. She posted this letter on her Facebook profile:
“I’m sorry if my first attempt at sun tanning in a bikini in public in 13 years “grossed you out. I’m sorry that my stomach isn’t flat and tight. I’m sorry that my belly is covered in stretch marks. But, I’m NOT sorry that my body has housed, grown, protected, birthed and nurtured FIVE fabulous, healthy, intelligent and wonderful human beings. I’m sorry if my 33-year-old, 125 lbs. body offended you so much that you felt that pointing, laughing, and pretending to kick me.”
Tanis Jex-Blake also said: “But I’ll have you know that as I looked at your ‘perfect’ young bodies, I could only think to myself “what great and amazing feat has YOUR body done? I’ll also have you know that I held my head high, unflinching as you mocked me, pretending that what you said and did had no effect on me; but I cried in the car on the drive home.”
Tanis Jex-Blake shared this letter on her Facebook profile, and she already has more than 10,000 likes and 5,000 shares. This is one of the top comments:
