Cockroaches are the most unpleasant “guests” in everyone’s home. They can enter without us being aware, and grow in numbers pretty quickly. Despite being unpleasant, they can also transmit various types of diseases and contaminate our food, and are very hard to get rid of. People usually call the exterminator when they spot a cockroach in their home, but this expensive method is highly dangerous due to the huge amount of chemicals used.
The exterminating process takes a lot of time and isn’t as effective as advertised – some cockroaches can survive it even if it’s constantly applied. These products contain toxins that can seriously harm your and your family’s health, which is why you need to find another solution. Luckily, there’s a simple homemade cockroach repellent that works better than anything else.
Boric acid milk balls
This natural remedy is made with boric acid, sugar and milk, which attract the pests and kills them right away. The boric acid balls are a kind of a Trojan horse – the sugar attracts the cockroaches while the boric acid kills them. Here’s what you need to do:
- 1 tablespoon of boric acid
- 1 tablespoon of powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons of milk
Mix the boric acid and sugar in a glass container, then add the milk slowly while you stir. The consistency should resemble a semi-solid paste. Now, make small balls out of the mixture and put them in areas frequented by the pests as well as all corners and hidden spots in your home. Make sure to keep the balls out of reach in order to protect your children and pests. The method is highly effective and will eliminate the pests soon.
Boric acid and eggs
Another great way of using boric acid against cockroaches is to mix it with egg and some sugar. This will constipate the pests and kill them in just a short time.
- 3 cups of boric acid
- 1 cup of sugar
- 3 eggs
Boil the eggs first until the yolk is hardened, then peel them and separate the whites from the yolks. Now, mix the yolks with the boric acid and sugar until everything is combined, then form small balls from the paste and put them around your home. Make sure to put some in your cupboards, pantries and the bathroom where cockroaches frequently reside. Also, you need to make sure your pets and children stay away from the boric acid balls.
Boric acid, baking soda and cornstarch
This mixture works just as well as the previous two – the balls should be put around your home in order to eliminate the pests quickly.
- 2 tablespoons of boric acid
- 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons of baking soda
- 2 tablespoons of gypsum
- 2 tablespoons of cornstarch
Just mix all the ingredients in a bowl, then form small balls of the mixture and put them everywhere around your home. You should see dead cockroaches in just a short time.
Borax is a household product usually used to make soap and other cleaning products. It eliminates cockroaches by dehydrating them quickly and effectively. To use it, put on a pair of gloves on your hands, then sprinkle some Borax in the areas frequented by the pests.
Of course, none of these remedies will work if you don’t maintain the hygiene in your home. Make sure to keep everything clean, and never leave leftover food and unwashed dishes in the sink in order to prevent cockroaches from infesting your home.
